Shadi Megallaa, the avant-garde space alien clone spy, hooked up with Igloo Pop label chef Dilo during a mission on Planet Earth. Recharging his nuclear powered batteries somewhere near Cairo, this third dimension encounter of the third kind which escalates into a full-blown underwater ghost rave, culminated in a wild humping on the back seat of grand mum’s car: Meghallaa as well as his alter ego Lucky Luke were born.
Well, that’s how it was, or could have been. Only a few things are certain: his first terrestrial music love was progressive, his first 12” was edited on Kenneth Broxgaard’s Danish Tic Tac Toe imprint, his last EP “Giza Visa” auf Dilek was pure Arabian brain sex, his first breath was taken in Cairo, and who still thinks all of this sounds cryptic should thoroughly study the latest two outings of this exceptional talent that is Megallaa who sometimes surfaces in the US and sometimes in the direct vicinity of Swiss criss crank man Michal Ho.

Cool grooves that resonate the air of “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” (“Under The Bridge”), a micro-maniacal cracker, or jazzy swing vibes (“Jupiter Jazz Club”) sit next to starkly contrasting outings that take the legacy of Plaid and Vangelis into the unknown outta space. This set was recorded at the announcement party for the EXTRACTION US compilation at Bar 13 in September. Larry plays a top-groovy set in between a succession of Soul Clap and Tanner Ross tags. We are getting closer to Extraction’s release with gigs all over the Northern American continent. The 28th of November 2008 Elon, Tanner Ross and Soul Clap will be taking over Miami - December 5th Soul Clap will be paying a visit to Crazy Larry in Denver and a week after in San Francisco with Alland Byallo and J.Phlip at the End Up’s Phonic night. Larry will also be opening for Cassy in Miami on the Saturday 29th November… Unmissable. As you start listening to the mix, here is more info on the unique one they call Crazy Larry: With no rave scene and virtually no radio support in most American markets, kids like Crazy Larry were forced to discover the wonders of dance music on their own accord. Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Larry Ursini is a young talent that has no fear when it comes to new technology and embraces it fully. Upon graduating from high school Larry enrolled in the Audio Engineering program at CU Denver. He also started doing his own Live PA in January of 2006, debuting in NYC for his closest friend in dance music, Taimur Agha. The live performance incorporates vintage drum machines; live home made plug-ins, and even the Nintendo Wii! Larry also teamed up with Pier Bucci while he was in town for a gig, and they subsequently released a joint EP under the Glacier moniker for Wagon Repair. RA has added one more date to our upcoming mini-tour of the United States with Dixon and Kristian from Âme. In collaboration with the Cheap Sunglasses crew, RA will be bringing the two DJs to San Francisco's famed End Up club. The Bay area club is so named because that's where you inevitably "end up" at the end of the night—or later—and that's exactly what Dixon and Kristian will be doing, as they're scheduled to play late into Saturday night in Los Angeles before heading to San Fran for this shindig which begins at noon and ends at 8 PM.
Holding down things in those early hours before the main attractions get there will be the Cheap Sunglassesguys: New York's Taimur Agha and Colorado's Crazy Larry. The duo have been throwing parties for less than a year around American electronic music festivals (WMC, DEMF, Decibel, Minitek), and this will be the first time that they've run an event without the benefit of that built-in audience. With Dixon and Kristian set to headline, we think that won't be much of a problem at all. The only question that we have? With cheap sunglasses, temporary tattoos, excuses to call off at work and earplugs all in the past, what's going to be the party favor this time?

Directed by Hanes Stoehr and starring Paul Kalkbrenner as DJ icarus. Berlin Calling is a melodramatic tragic comedy set in the world’s most recognizable and bustling hub of dance music activity today. would love to see this film as it has garnered a very positive reaction from the toronto filim fest and the few premeirs around europe. the locarno premeir featured a packed outdoor town square viewing in which the crowd was so excited, kalkbrenner broke out his laptop and performed after the film ended and got the crowd going even more. more importanty the soundtrack is also composed by kalkbrenner and has a very nice feel from start to finnish. there are quite a few noteworthy tracks withing the soundtrack, including my favorite Square 1. check out the soundtrack at beatport.
can't wait for this to either come to a theater near me or get a dvd copy once released.

Deadbeat is scott monteith, a long time montrealer and recent berlin ex-pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as cynosure, musique risquée, scape, and spectral to name but a few. his work has been met with consistent critical acclaim from the industry’s leading publications, and drawn regular performance invitations for some of the world’s most respected festivals and clubs, including barcelona’s sonar, berlin’s transmediale, and montreal’s mutek alongside panorama bar, fabric and the like. his eagerly anticipated new album sees him continue his relationship with kindred spirits wagon repair in his own inimitable techno/dub/dancehall/house style. those familiar with deadbeat’s last album, which felt much more a collection of tracks, will be immediately struck by roots and wire’s larger cohesive narrative arc after thex first listen. the album is aesthetically informed by his longterm collaborative friendship with robert henke (monolake), the creative relationship with wagon repair, the close proximity of his fellow artists in berlin and the opportunity to collaborate with paul st hilaire (tikiman). it is no surprise that an album of such vast scope be largely inspired by the artist’s own transition from montreal based producer releasing on berlin label ~scape for 5 years, to berlin based producer releasing on a canadian label. an uncanny logic is present throughout, weaving a fluid narrative from disparate influences and styles. opener ‘rise again’ is the first of two collaborations with tikiman, whose beautiful rasta lament is supported by a huge bass sound. in recording all of the virtual instruments through mic’d speakers as one would do with a real band, he’s given the track a distinctly ‘live’ feel that is a thematic element of all the tracks on the album. the sense of space and breathing room tone this recording process produces also makes the bass sound even larger than it already is.

He owns two labels and produces dance music under several different monikers, so it's no surprise that Berlin-based, American expat Jay Haze should have an extensive back catalog of tracks. He recently took some time to comb through his repertoire and compile Keep Your Third Eye Open exclusively for XLR8R, and originality rules on this mix.
"In house and techno, the formula is way too apparent and extremely overused," Jay said in an interview earlier this year. "The music has become predictable and as a result, boring."
Not so here. The 13 gems on this mix–all unreleased tracks and versions–prove that, when in the studio, Jay considers his musical compositions carefully, playing with tempos, twisting up synths and pianos, and, in short, breathing badly needed fresh air back into house and techno.

A Western Michigan native and long-time Detroit resident, Lee Curtiss has been forging his uniquely backwoods, yet avant-garde and primal brand of deep and twisted dance music since the late 1990’s. A constantly changing and ever-eager student to his craft, Lee’s finger has been pressed upon, if not thrust into, the throbbing aorta of underground dance music for quite some time – even if his production skills and brain-demolishing live PA have only recently begun to garner the attention of techno and house music’s elite. Growing up between the two poles of Chicago and Detroit organized Lee’s approach to production squarely between the grooving, deep house sounds of artists like Derrick Carter, and the mindfreaking work of techno producers such as Ricardo Villalobos, Zip (aka Dimbiman), Matthew Dear and Richie Hawtin. Over the past year Lee has begun to tour extensively in America and Europe, notoriously adhering to a 'fuck trends, fuck dance music, and fuck me' approach to producing and performing that only the strongest of stomachs and most iron-clad of minds can withstand. His music’s dark, sexy, and uncompromising singularity have earned him coveted performance slots at the 2007 DEMF and Mutek festivals, preludes to his upcoming summer move to Europe and a new commitment to touring and producing. Grant Aaron, aka Insideout, is co-owner of and recording artist on Clink Recordings. Grant began DJing in 1997, mainly influenced by the striped down minimal sounds of Daniel Bell,Plastikman and Mike Ink. It didn't take long for those influences to persuade him to move from behind the decks to the studio. His first original sounds came in the form of Ambient and Experimental with a full length album titled, Embrace. This was released on his co-created multimedia net label, Lifeform Project, which he started with several producers from his hometown of Atlanta, but that was just the beginning. With the International response and success of the net label, Grant realized his personal longing to progress his musical ideas even further. He relocated to Brooklyn, New York, and teamed up with close friend, DJ and producer, Camea. Clink Recordings was born in the Fall of 2005. They have since released a catalogue of very successful solo and collaborative EP's from NY artists Afternoon Coffee Boys, Tim Xavier, Tony Rohr, Camea, Insideout, Ambivalent and Elon. His collaborative debut with Camea, Nothing Shocking/Azimuth (Clink 002), was a hit and played by artists such as Richie Hawtin, Magda and Adam Beyer. As a solo artist, Grant's production combines the influences of modern minimal techno and the basic fundamentals of this genre: intricate percussive programming, dark atmospherics and an irresistible cavernous bounce. In recent years, Grant has meticulously created a following and demand for his deep, conceptually minimal DJ sets. He rotates regular gigs in South America, North America and Europe, and is a New York after-hours favorite. i was lucky enough to catch bruno pronsato perform at oslo for the temporary tattoo party at demf this year. the party on a whole had an amazing vibe, but I really got a kick out of bruno's set which was the highlight of the evening for me. caught up with bruno before he heads back to europe for upcoming gigs and he was nice enough to answer a few questions for the berlin readers. also, see below for a live performance from harry klein from september 2006. we will post an updated live performance from bruno soon in another post so check back on regular and enjoy the interview !

favorite venue worldwide and most up for it crowd you have encountered lately?

that's a tough one. i'm pretty sure this is gonna be incredibly cliché, but i would have to say panorama bar - mainly because it's the venue i have played more constantly than any other. you can always count on a great crowd and freak show there.

american techno scene vs your experiences oveseas?

it's hard to compare the two. in the u.s. it's more like a small scene - similar to the days when i was traveling around in punk bands. in the u.s., you almost know everyone at every show. it's small and unique, and for the most part, people are amazing. i have very close friends in just about every city i play in the u.s. - like really close people, inspirational people...Europe is entirely different. it's very clubby there. some places are commercial, some places are homey and awesome. i like both, they both have their appeal

in the studio are you a hardware or software producer, if hardware do you have a favorite instrument ?

a little of both, really...I am very 'of the moment' sometimes i'm crazy about max/msp other times i want to do everything on my jomox 888. right now i am in machine mode. sammy dee and i are using a lot of machines of live (his idea) and from that i've sort of got back into really using machines again. he and i are always talking about the next machine for our live - studio studio set up. this year will probably be more machine for me. who knows about next year.

you have a background in music way beyond just the types of tunes you are slinging in the clubs.....what is your favorite genre outside of techno and why? i read last year you were on a classical bing, are you still into classical and do you feel like it has shaped or influenced any of your dance productions/sets?

well i have been a classical music fan for a while now. i go thru phases where it's all i listen to. at the moment tho, i am really into early 90s shoegaze stuff, and indie rock. but i think the phase has just about run it's course. i just spent the entire morning listening to Janacek's Along An Overgrown Path. A piece i'm really starting to get my head around. As far as inspiring me, i think it does in a very subtle way. I'm not dividing my music up into movements, but i am thinking about ways to create and evolve themes maybe. i don't want to make it sound complicated, cuz that is far from what i believe i am capable of, but let's just say it pushes me a little more than anything - pushing ideas on how to compose...in house music, or whatever.

best vacation you ever had?

a trip to florence a few months back - getting fat on food from tuscany is about as good as it gets.

you have a very unique style with your productions which is a way that your music stands out from so many of the cookie cutter tracks that are out there now. the loose, organic, gritty feel that you give the tracks is what brings them to life from the digital mire, what are some of the ways you insure that your tracks don't end up sounding overly digital and polished, and how much of that is planned vs. in the moment discovery?

I think my approach is very simple, and it's something that i say a lot. Keep it sexy. No matter what the circumstance is, it's got to be sexy. this is music for the night. I'm more of the lover type and less the vampire. the vampire goes dark and spooky, i kind of want to keep it sexy. when things are clean and overproduced it just sounds sounds like another club product. I think sexiness keeps more of the FEEL and less of the quantize, so it just comes out that way. for me it's not a production 'style', but more of something that just comes out because of a standard that i have set for myself. altho, it would be nice to have a 'sexify' button in logic, or on one of these machines ;)

do you have any projects we can be on the lookout for?

yes. i have a new 2 track ep coming out on Hello?Repeat in August called, 'Where'd You Learn To Kiss That Way.' Also, Sammy Dee and I, under the moniker Half Hawaii, have a track coming out on a compilation on the 'Diamonds And Pearls' label from Berlin called, "Emperors of Venus." Sammy and I are also working on an album that we hope to finish up my Dec/Jan...

before you leave for any of your trips in europe is there a food you try and get your hands on before you leave that you know is unavailable over the pond?

I try to eat AS MUCH mexican food as i can while i am the US. it just does not exist in any palpable form in europe. I am currently in Austin visiting my brother and I think we are just eating as much as possible, getting totally fat. I'm back in Berlin july 3...a few more days to fatten up ;)

more rib breaking bass madness from christian and justin. the martin brothers, along with a group of talented producers and dj's including mr. crenshaw, worthy, tanner ross and the like comprise the inner workings of the label dirtybird. this will be number 18 for dirtyybird and will surely rock dancefloors worldwide as I have witnessed first hand in london last month. heard heidie drop this track at aquarium at the get physical late night, and it did a number on the floor there. check the vid below - sorry it's sideways but you will get the idea. this ep will drive you to some serious ass shaking. it is out on vinyl but I have not heard of the digital release yet......stay tuned. my favorite cut is Dum, it is full of bumpy flavor and brain twisting grooves. the ep also includes a very funny acapella tool that would add a little kooky fun flavor to any set.

Overview
DJ Emerson who spends most his time travelling between electronic night clubs all around the world is back on micro.fon with a strong hypnotizing two tracker.
Included is an incredible remix by the highly talented abnormal boyz from naples / italy, who had wonderful releases on labels like globox, splitsound their own brandnew imprint Schatten. They deliever a wonderful ecletic house techno remix with nice vocal cuts, shuffling shakers, jazzy snares and a distinctive floor burning groove. This track is already causing serious stir on dancefloors from Berlin to Rio de Janeiro and it seems to be a real girl friendly dj weapon with tons of groove straight outta Italy.
Supertight is a superfunky hynotic techno monster taking the listener on an onward journey through chrod driven old school techno with all the modern influences necessary. minimal doesnt seem to be the right word as this tune is made up by over 50 single tracks but everything is very on point and the rhythm keeps developing and changing all through the track still trying to focus on the hynotizing moment and the groove. The rhythm kinda hypnotizes the listener until a little melody enlightens the whole track and keeps it in your head for hours.

Bill Patrick RA mix

One-third of the New York's Robots collaborative, Bill Patrick put this mix together for RA a while back. The trio formed in New York in 2003, the members' common denominator an obsessive interest in twisted, mind-bending techno and house. Patrick was a resident DJ at Arc, mainly performing warm-up duties, when he met founding member Nick AC, a UK transplant. Disappointed with the general apathy of clubgoers toward New York's dance parties, the two founded Robots in part to reignite the scene and simultaneously indulge their fetish for electronic music.

this mix could have pretty much been taken from a set of mine at Robots. I understand people may hear similar sounds from past podcast but its all a matter of interpretation. I am drawn to the more melodic sounds of techno with warm funkier basslines that chug along. Everyone before me did a fantastic job and there's definitely pressure to put together something that stands out a bit. So hopefully i was able to accomplish that. If not, it's ok cus i love each and evry track on this mix and thank the artist like franco, george s, and alphahouse for supplying me with some great music.

An emerging voice at the vanguard of house, electro and techno, the Lady Foursquare's production work as The Riveter has put her work in the sets of luminaries ranging from Felix da Housecat to Donald Glaude, Bear Who?, and many more. In 2006 she migrated to Chicago and turned her full focus toward the music industry. Now working solo and with Angel Alanis, The Lady Foursquare has flowered as a producer, having been most recently selected to rework the upcoming Funk Monkeys release, "Remember the Time" alongside Sebastien Leger and Billy Dallesandro. She also appeared as a remixer for Punisher’s “K.O.” on the Uppercut label. With five releases in 2007, including a remix for the Dust Traxx Chicago Re-Edit's series, and many more slated for 2008, nothing is slowing down. Her work with her Backbreaker imprint appears on the popular Source compilations next to names such as the aforementioned Sebastien Leger, Paul Woolford and the Soundshift label. The Lady Foursquare was known first as a DJ, with inimitable aggressive technical flare, incredible energy and turntablist trickery. She quickly found praise from a wide range of artists, opening for Felix da Housecat (Rude Photo), Matthew Dear (Ghostly International/Minus), DJ Skribble (Bad Boy), Paul Johnson (Dust Traxx Chicago), Nigel Richards (611 Records) and Derek Plaslaiko (Spectral Recordings). ARTIST PROFILE: Camea

In just a short time, Camea has gone from being one of the few lonely souls pushing the minimal and micro-house sound in the United States to one of the matrons and ambassadors of its phenomenal wave around the globe. She runs two of minimal techno's top labels, Clink & Klickhaus, and works along side many of techno's hottest voices today, among them Tony Rohr, Tim Xavier, Elon, Insideout, Matthew Dear, Alexi Delano, Pan-Pot, and Ambivalent (with whom she shares one of online's hippest radio shows covering the gamut of minimal techno today, The Nerd Tank). Her sound has been described as "Seattle cool meets Brooklyn edge...a funky-sexy blend of groovy house and techno-pop, a little bit dirty and a lot danceable" (DJ List) and certainly she has managed to garner a wide ear for a new techno sound, making it hip and giving it a starlet in the process. A classically trained piano and clarinet player, her productions have been featured on her own Clink and Klickhaus labels, as well as Spectral and LTD400 (w/ Tim Xavier), and her remixes are also featured on M_nus, Tora Tora Tora and Einmaleins.

Though she has recently moved to Berlin, she has made a distinct mark on the "new" New York techno scene, playing at the best parties and venues there, among them Avalon, Cielo, Wolf & Lamb, Bunker, APT, Minimoo and Crobar. She will be touring the U.S. again soon, but has upcoming performances in cities around the globe, including Bogota, Rome, Stuttgart, Zurich, Brussels and Berlin.

Bpitch control has been introducing diversity to the club society of berlin since 1997. in the mean time there is no halt within the republic's borders. the label, created by ellen allien, tries to split the technoid-electronic microcosmos of the capital city with the function of being a platform for upcoming artists. berlin is growing from the important role as one of the cities where techno has been at home the most for the last 10 years. bpitch control puts this consequently into practice and leaves its unmistakable marks on techno, hence "made in berlin". musically bpitch control is not only defined by techno, it is a wide concept including self-organized parties on a regular basis, an open content label, visual implementation, and the successful move to keep the material conditions of production under own direction. bpitch control considers itself a channel where the collective is the priority and the ideas of every individual have space. reflection about the sound can become a mirror to the city of berlin. acoustically bpitch control romps about in the vast plane of electronic music - just don't get stuck on one style.

in 1975 jeff was produced by his parents in warsaw poland, but moved to sweden in 1981 and lives since then in malmoe sweden. jeff who was formerly called mike pung has been involved in electronic music since 1992 but it all began as a bedroom thing that has since then evolved into a habit. he started creating music in 1993 and got hooked on it directly, but it took until 1998 before his first single was to come out on his own label maskros music. since that single he has released 19 singles and has released on labels like poker flat, episode, treibstoff, audio beyond, konvex konkav etc. in 1994 he and a partner opened a record store called cosmic one records that became the first electronic record store in malmoe. with the opening of the record store the dj career got a boost and he started playing on various venues. a year after the store was opened jeff & his record store partner jim groovy started making their own one-off parties and clubs in various sizes. his latest residency was in a house club called thank god it's friday were he played almost every friday for over a year. in 1996 jeff & jim started their first label azurite records. jeff started his own label maskros music in 1998. and the year 2000 two new labels called phunctional & kung fu dub were started by jeff. his musical influences came from detroit. people like derrick may, juan atkins & kevin saunderson, but also from richie hawtin's label plus 8 and the artist there like speedy j, kenny larkin etc. europe also had a big impact on him with artists like stefan roberts, 808 state, klf, dreadzone, terry lee brown junior, tikiman & labels like plastic city, svek, circulation, early network releases + many more. also a lot of reggae & dub artist like augustus pablo, lee perry, mad professor, andy horace, king tubby + many more.

Daily, he manages distribution for 35 exclusive record labels (that belong to Joey Beltram, Felix Da House Cat, Angel Alanis, Johnny Fiasco and other fine recording artists). As Marketing and Distribution Director for Sole Unlimited North America, Frankie is an infectious force spreading awareness of artists, record releases and putting their music on the shelves of record stores and in the hands of DJs. When the sun goes down, Frankie Vega and partners host signature club and ball room events such as IN YOUR SYSTEM, BOTS, BIG BANG SESSIONS and other brands through promotion company Majestic Night Life.

This "Live Wrong" mix was taken from the Live Wrong party at last year's WMC in Miami. Born in 1978, Luciano is a DJ since 1993 and a producer since 1997. In the mid-90's, he was promoting Sense Club and Encuentros con la Technocultura in Santiago de Chile in the company of many initiators of the Latin American electronic music scene: Senor Coconut AKA Atom Heart, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack & brother Adrian Schopf, Washington Miranda, Argenix Brito, Microman etc.

He's played radio stations and DJed clubs & events in Santiago and Latin America, Germany, Spain & Holland, settling in Switzerland in 2000 to release on Mental Groove Records in Geneva, where he also holds a residency at the Weetamix club. His releases appear on the Transmat, Perlon, Lo-Fi Stereo, Bruchstuecke and Klang Elektronik record labels.

Luciano's mixed Swiss & Chilean identity shows in his music, a somewhat mystical blend of deep techno & electro that integrates southern elements in rhythms and colorful patterns in sound. His collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos (Playhouse, Perlon, Warp, Force Inc etc.) as Sense Club are especially rewarding, as is his partnership with Pier Bucci and Argenix Brito as Monne Automne.

Mellowing his style as times goes by, getting more experimental and spacey with a fresh style of his own, Luciano's production is destined to the wiser dancefloors that have enjoyed his live sets in Peru, Chile, Argentina, the U.S., Spain, Germany & Switzerland. DJ-wise, Luciano's trade relies on groovy & minimal.

ARTIST SHOWCASE: Dave Powers aka Cyborg K

Cyborg K, aka David Powers, is a forward thinking and innovative producer and DJ. Born in Zaragoza, Spain, David grew up in Michigan and programmed his first drum machine at the age of 11. A self taught jazz musician, he was playing jazz professionally by the age of 15, and went on to receive training in music composition and classical piano. His sound has been inspired by musicians as wide ranging as John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Mozart, John Cage, Prince, and Kraftwerk.

In 1999 and 2000, now known as Cyborg K, David got his first taste of the high of playing dirty Detroit warehouse raves. These underground parties turned his love of techno music into an insatiable passion. During this time, he played all-hardware live PA's alongside techno pioneers such as Adam X, Dan Bell, and Oliver Ho. He also began honing his studio skills and mastering analog synthesizers.

Looking for a way to travel the world, David ventured onto a cruise ship line to perform on piano throughout the Caribbean. Driven to continue creating techno, his cabin became a chamber of creation as he made his first leaps into digital production. He continued to refine his sound, and also began branching out from techno into minimal, house, and electro.

Cyborg K has begun to spawn releases and remixes on forward-thinking labels such as the Punisher's Hej imprint, Addon, and Blazaebla. He is clearly a DJ and producer taking techno into the next era.

the italoboyz are tearing up dance floors everywhere. the sounds they produce are quirky and superbly unique. Hailing from Detroit, Michelle Herrmann, a.k.a. techno legend Punisher, is an uncompromising artist and truly gifted producer. From her career's onset in 1993 at only 15 years old, Michelle has set a precedent of raising the bar high for all things Punisher through flawless productions and floor burning dj and live performances. Very early in her career, it became apparent that simply djing would not be enough to contain Michelle's artistic creativity and prowess. In 1996 and 1997, within two years of her first turn on the tables, Punisher put out her first two 12 inch EPs on Detroit based label Matrix records. Seeking to push forth the concepts of sound and motion, in 1998 Michelle and Mike Brickner, a.k.a. Cozmic Spore, launched the seminal Detroit label, Seismic Records. The label quickly gained much international and critical respect and collaboration from many world renowned djs and producers. Seismic has seen releases from the likes of the Advent, Bryan Zentz, and Andrei Morant and collaborations with legendary Vapourspace producer Mark Gage. Through licensing by the likes of Dave Clarke and Bill Nasty, Seismic developed into a strong international techno label. Michelle musical energy is currently being propelled into her newest undertaking, the founding of a new label, HEJ RECORDS ( www.hejrecords.com), with Matt Caputo, a.k.a. the Overfiend. Hej was founded with a unique vision 'to make a mark in the evolution of musical energy'. Hej will see its premiere EP releases in 2007, with Michelle's track 'Hejiling' as the first track. The label will put forth a huge onslaught of both vinyl and net tracks from a wide range of International and Midwestern talent. Punisher's music has also landed her guest dj spots on several radio stations, including world giant XM Satellite Radio. 2007 will culminate for Michelle with the release of her first ever full-length album of original tracks. To back the momentum of her constant stream of releases, Punisher travels the world djing and performing her masterful live sets. Her sound, a unique blend of techno, electro, and her first style drum n' bass, has resonated on dance floors from the United States to Canada, Europe and Latin America. Michelle has literally pummeled walls of sound alongside artists such as Joel Mull, Cari Lekebusch, Marco Carola, Ben Sims, Adam Beyer, Misstress Barbara, Richie Hawtin, Dave Clarke, Derrick May, T-1000, Gaetano Parisio, and many others. One of the most respected and looked at label in the minimal techno community would be Richie Hawtin's "Minus" techno label. It is the home to Hawtin himself, Magda, Heartthrob, Berg Nixon, Marc Houle, Troy Pierce, Ambivalent, JLPS, Gaiser and a select cut of others. Based as much now in Berlin as it is in Windsor Ontario, Minus continues to release the most uncompromising and future forward techno the world has to offer.
A new generation of fresh artists from around the globe and various influential labels such as Minus have shaken techno to its very foundations, questioning the essence of sound and rhythm, twisting it into a sonic spectacle of colliding clicks and bleeps, infectious basslines and hypnotic melodies all firmly layered on the universal language of the four to the floor beat.
All through electronic music's history, minimalism has played a seminal role in defining the basic structures and rhythms that have captivated so many people and will continue to do so. But never so much as today have the basic ingredients of techno attracted so much attention worldwide.
Pioneered by techno illuminaries such as Robert Hood, Richie Hawtin or Daniel Bell, minimal techno has evolved into a musical force of its own and Minus continues to push the boundaries and blow up dancefloors.

Born in Chile, raised in Sweden, and living in Brooklyn, Alexi Delano's background and consequently, his musical tastes, are as cosmopolitan as you'll find. Also appearing as A.D. 1010 or ADNY on his productions, Delano made his stellar debut on Cari Lekebusch's Hybrid label and has since produced a lengthy discography on such labels as Missile, Steve Bug's imprint Raw Elements, Plumphouse, Svek, Harthouse, Tora Tora Tora, Trusoul, CSM, Moody, Syndicato, Laurent Garnier's F Communications, Jericho, Primevil, Christian Smith's Strive and Tronic labels, Earthtones, Plastic City, Audiomatique, Chris Fortier's Fade label, and his own ADLtd. He is the consummate collaborator, having worked with Cari Lekebusch, Jesper Dahlback, Adam Beyer, Casey Hogan, Tony Rohr, Lucas Rodenbush, John Selway, Tim Taylor and Santiago Ferrer aka Xpansul. Though his productions are very diverse, he is most well known for his cultivation of a new acid sound and for tracks with swirling pitch-sweeping samples that start deep but build into a frantic frenzy.

Get a lobotomy

The origins of modern psychosurgery are to be found in the last decades of the 19th century, when science was beginning to understand how the human mind and behavior could be mapped out into the anatomical features of the brain. A German scientist named Friederich Golz, doing experiments with the surgical ablation of neocortex in dogs, reported in 1890 that when the temporal lobe were removed, animals were more tame and calmer than the unoperated ones. This inspired Gottlieb Burkhardt, a physician and supervisor of an insane asylum in Switzerland, to perform in 1892 an operation to remove parts of the cortex of six schizophrenic patients which had hallucinations and became very agitated because of this. Some of his patients actually became calmer after the surgery, but we don't know whether this was a direct effect of the surgery (two of them died). Burkhardt was opposed and criticised by the medical authorities of his time, so that very few psychosurgeries of this kind were carried out in the next 40 years or so. The situation changed again when several experimental laboratories in the USA started to make amazing discoveries about the role of the temporal and frontal cortex in the control of emotional behavior and aggressiveness. In Yale University, in 1935, a scientist named Carlyle Jacobsen made observations on the behavior of chimpanzees after damaging their frontal and prefrontal cortex by means of a lobotomy ( "lobe cutting"). One of the animals, who was aggressive in certain situations before the surgery, became very calm and manageable. This happened without apparent loss of other mental functions such as memory and intelligence. One of Yale's experimental neurologists. Dr. John Fulton had also removed completely the frontal lobes of two chimpanzees, hereafter he was unable to provoke a form of experimental neurosis in these animals. Because of this Fulton was to become one of the scientific pillars of the proponents of lobotomy in the United States.

this dude is one of my favorites right now. he has a vast taste in musical sounds but seems to bring it all back a love of the stripped back and groove laden sounds of minimalistic electronic music and techno. he is coming strong with a new release which is a 4 track mini lp of BOMBS. he has a grasp on what it takes to move a floor as a dj, as well as a hand in other facets of the industry such as promoting, label management, and producing music with the worlds best. jaxon can be found in many record boxes all over the world, including dj emerson, italoboyz, ricardo villalobos.
